Rehabilitation

Today, Turkey is one of the world's centres for physiotherapy and apparatus rehabilitation. Depending on the type and severity of the disease, Turkish rehabilitation specialists can either fully restore damaged bodily functions, improve the patient's well-being and quality of life, or slow down the progression of the disease.

Robotic rehabilitation is a major advantage of Turkish rehabilitation medicine. There are several clinics in Turkey that now use robotic systems alongside traditional rehabilitation methods such as physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and massage. They allow exercise and training of the musculoskeletal system, even in patients with paralysis or in coma.

An example of the successful use of robots in medical rehabilitation is LOKOMAT - a robotic system for simulating leg movements in patients who have lost the ability to walk due to paralysis, brain or spinal cord injury, orthopaedic or neurological diseases. This method "reminds" the brain and spinal cord how to take steps. The nerve impulses during walking stimulate the areas of the brain responsible for movement and help restore damaged functions.

Health conditions treated in Turkish rehabilitation centres:

  • musculoskeletal, brain and spinal cord injuries;
  • paralysis and paresis of various origins, including cerebral palsy;
  • scoliosis and intervertebral hernias;
  • post-stroke conditions and acute cardiological diseases;
  • multiple sclerosis;
  • speech and swallowing disorders in adults and children.
